From 20 to 22 September, BATS participated in Imatra, Finland, in the FRONTEX R&D green border surveillance workshop “Aerostats and Rapid Deployment Unattended Ground Sensor systems for Land border surveillance” hosted by the Finish Border guard. Representatives of the border guard services and armed forces of several EU Member States were present and attended live demonstrations of advanced systems conducted by leading companies.
In the context of the development of a common European border surveillance system (EUROSUR), Member States are expected to improve and harmonise their surveillance activities in order to ensure effective detection of irregular immigration and cross-border crime.
FRONTEX, the EU agency based in Warsaw, is a specialised and independent body tasked to coordinate the operational cooperation between Member States in the field of border security. The activities of FRONTEX are intelligence driven. FRONTEX complements and provides particular added value to the national border management systems of the Member States.
